For Dr. Carmen Woods Hollowell, medicine is part of the fabric of who she is. “I am of the belief that to whom much is given, much is required,” says Dr. Woods Hollowell. “My philosophy of compassionate medicine rooted in cutting-edge science began at a young age. As a child, I saw the deep personal satisfaction my father derived from our profession.” Though now emeritus, he started the practice on the North Shore more than 40 years ago—pioneering a philosophy of treating people the way he’d want to be treated. “Medicine is in my DNA. My husband’s a surgeon … my sister and in-laws are all physicians. It’s against this backdrop I shine,” she says. “By embracing and empowering every stage of womanhood, I’m able to break down the barriers between doctor and patient, placing me far above the rest. It’s a pleasure to attend a birthday party every day and get to know my patients and families through generations.” To Dr. Woods Hollowell, her practice is all about relationships and being present. “Every moment with me is like hanging out with your best friend; just at my office,” she adds. “I’ve delivered, operated on, tended, and cared for the generations my father delivered. It’s not business with us at The Woods Women’s Group; it’s personal.”
